Fire and Wood…How Do You Show up?

We show up wherever we are! Yes, that is true.

Your personality and how you do things shows up in your closet, in your purse, in your actions, your communications, your appearance and even in your personal features.

I am beginning to add my Fashion Feng Shui expertise into my work with clients… especially as I have been taking a face reading course with Michelle Butt. Check out her site here www.michellebutt.com.

The face reading goes hand in hand with my Fashion Feng Shui (FFS) and I get so excited so see the co-relation.

Let me demonstrate in my story of my last client. I went to help her clean out her closet and create new outfits from what she already had.

I knew from her curly hair and dimples that she had FIRE energy and the fact she is an ever- ready energizer bunny, I knew her second essence is Wood.

That showed up BIG TIME, when she time after time would toss a filmy, floaty top onto the give away pile and say,” That is so not me. Don’t know why I bought it.”

 

They were representative of WATER energy and is deep and flowing. She wouldn’t feel in control wearing these. So, they didn’t resonate with them.

Having my background in FFS, plus now, the face reading, I understand. I could put together outfits to represent her personality, her colouring and the textures
in her features.

In fact, she was shocked at some things I suggested and although a little resistant at first, she tried them, laughed and said,” I would NEVER have thought of this, but I like it.” Those words are music to my ears!!

Next… I asked where she wanted to take her business. Well, she wants to be seen more. AAAh… then we add more FIRE with colour. Plus, she wants to look organized, detailed (which she is but we need it to show in her appearance) and she wants to earn more money!! Then METAL is definitely going to be added to her wardrobe.

She will need some grounding as well and the EARTH element will help with that.

Don’t Give Your Booties the Boot… 5 Tips on How to Wear Booties.

You’ve seen them in store windows and on women of all ages: booties or shoe boots as I call them.
They look cute on others but you aren’t sure if you can wear them.
You have doubts. I bet I can guess what you’re thinking. Am I too old to wear booties?
How do people wear booties with socks?
Should I get a slouchy one or a slim one?
What kind of pants do you wear booties?
Will they go out of style?

Lots of questions but lucky for you, I have lots of answers. Booties offer style solutions and they are not going out of style anytime soon!

  1. If you choose booties in a colour such as burgundy, teal or red, then connect the colour to your outfit in another piece of clothing or an accessory.
  2. Booties in light colours, such as sand or taupe can be worn with winter white or similar taupe colours.
  3. They also look great with darker denims or pants as a contrasting colour, especially if you are tall and can spare the height.
  4. Choose a bootie that relates to your hair colour, so it brings the eye of the observer up to your face and hair. This will tie almost any outfit together.
  5. Booties in metallic shades can add glitz or glamour or dressiness to any outfit.
  6. Ankle booties that are low cut in the vamp are great for slim over-the-knee pencil skirts. This bootie style elongates the leg.

Have some fun trying on various styles and wear an outfit you think you would like to pair them with.

What’s LOVE Got To Do With It? 3 Ways to Bring Love into Your Wardrobe

Wouldn’t it be fun to wake up every day and put on something you love? Wouldn’t it brighten your day and make you feel happy?

That experience is absolutely possible.

I’ve got a few ways you can use that powerful love force and infuse your wardrobe with it so you’re happy to meet the day.

  1. Shop for what you love

In order to have a wardrobe that’s filled with what you love you may need to change up your shopping habits. If you’re shopping on the run, you may be grabbing “just any old thing” rather than allowing yourself the time to try things on, look in the mirror and ask yourself the question, “Do I love this?” Or if you are taking the time to try things on, are you settling for the same old thing instead of exploring new possibilities? The best thing to do is give yourself some time to explore and have fun with clothes. Don’t settle for “okay” when you could enjoy clothing pieces and accessories that put a smile on your face every time you wear it.

  1. Display what you love

People have collections of things they love. It could be figurines of specific animals. Maybe it’s a wall of framed horticultural prints. Some people fall in love with a city and want to be reminded of it all the time. You can take those subjects you love and look for them in prints. How about a blouse with your favorite flower or a knit sweater with the image of your favorite animal woven in? Or a scarf depicting your favorite city? Many people gain much pleasure when they adorn themselves in things they already love.

  1. Satisfy your love of details

Look at your wardrobe or look through a fashion magazine. Are there details that you just love? Maybe you love vintage details. You may fancy lace, ruffles, bows, tucks, appliqués. Maybe you love urban details like studs, fringe, or grommets. Indulge your love of details and look for new ways to have them in your wardrobe. If it’s studs you like, look for them in handbags, shoes or boots, or on the hemlines of skirts.

LOL… can you guess what I LOVE to collect as a pattern in my clothes?

My goal is to have every woman LOVE who she sees in the mirror!

Who Do You Love Mama…Who Do You Love?

Welcome to February, the month of love. I am super excited because I totally love astrology and Mars, the fiery male planet, and Venus, the female planet of love, are merging together in Aries!!  Too much non-sense information?

Well not if I want to bring more love into your life… and I always do. I want you to fall in love with the person in the mirror.

Do you remember what  it feels like to be in love, in the beginning? The buoyant feeling you have. The excitement and the smiles. Wondering … what will I wear when we go out?  We actually spent time fussing over ourselves and putting outfits together. What happened?

Well you might say, menopause hit, I got divorced, my partner passed away, I became ill, I retired or I became a grandparent.  Whatever “The Life” happened to you, I am here to get you back on the self-love track.

Let’s start with what you have, your body.

In my last 2 videos, I talked about how negative women can be to themselves. Our self talk is a litany of “Don’t likes.”  We compare ourselves to other women and… often to younger women!

This month, in fact, today, I want you to highlight a feature about yourself that you LOVE.  Maybe it’s your décolleté. Are you wearing pieces that flatter your chest? Start wearing blouses with necklines that are flattering. Or add a statement necklace to your simple rounded neck top.

 

Perhaps you have long legs that you love. Wear pants in all kinds of fabrics like, velvet, jacquard and the new denim that is surfacing this spring.  Bring some loving attention to your body and highlight areas that make you feel like a ten!

5 Tips for the In-Between Fashion Season

fashion expert york regionIt’s that time of year. You look in your closet and nothing looks fun or interesting. You’re sick of your wardrobe, your skin needs some vitamin D, and you’re ready to come out of hibernation. But how do you put spring in your fashion step when the weather’s not cooperating? No worries, here are 5 tips for changing up your look in this transitional time between seasons.

1. Show (the illusion of) More Skin

  • Layer long-sleeved sheer tops over camisoles and add a swing cardigan in a lighter color if you need more warmth.
  • Choose a lower neckline. Try a scoop neck long-sleeved T-shirt or sweater instead of a crew neck.
  • Cuff your skinny jeans and wear flats or ankle booties to show off a bare ankle.
  • Swap out opaque black tights for colored ones or replace tights with nude fishnets or other open-weave, patterned hosiery.
