How to Make Summer Event Wardrobe Worries Disappear

Summer is fast approaching and with it comes weddings, BBQ parties, pool parties etc.

As a fashion and wardrobe coach, I hear from my clients about the things that stress them out and getting dressed for summer events is one of them.

I want you to feel at ease with yourself and stress-free. Let’s see if I can help you do that!

“I’m worried about looking appropriate for an upcoming event.”

Events can be a bit tricky, as you’re not only dressing for the event; you’re dressing for the venue, the people, and the weather. The first thing to do when starting to plan your look for an event is to study the invitation. Does it have a dress code on it alerting you to the type of outfit you should be wearing? Is the invitation design formal or informal? Every invitation holds clues for you.

The next thing you can do is research the location of the event. Google is your friend here. Look up what the weather will be like during the days you’ll be there or how the weather normally behaves during that time of year. What will also help is to look at the venue’s website for photos of previous events held at this location. Even though you may be attending an event in a barn, you may see by the photos that elegant parties are the norm.

By researching these different factors, you can more confidently figure out an outfit that you’d feel comfortable in and one that would be appropriate for the setting as well.

Of course, if you have been following me, you know I will recommend that you wear outfits that compliment your skin undertone and your body shape. Those alone will help boost your confidence.

Need help putting outfits together? Call me. I would love to assist you! 905-775-7486

Are You Guilty of Doing This?

Are you a closet fantasizer? A MAYBE, SOMEDAY kinda girl?

You are frustrated with all the items taking up space in your closet and yet when you take out something you haven’t worn in 5 years… at least… you stop and fantasize about where you could wear it?

I hear this all the time from friends and clients. Hey… I can admit even I have done it!

Well, I COULD wear this on Hallowe’en sometime.

Or… this could be cute for a party on a cruise ship, if they have a theme party that is.

If I hold on to this…

  1. I might go to New York for lunch.
  2. I might be able to wear this to a New Years party, even though it is out of style and I freeze in it.
  3. I might wear it at the beach, cleaning the car, painting.
  4. I had better hold on… this … MIGHT happen!

If you are being a someday, what if, kind of person, I am breaking the news to you. If it hasn’t happened now, there is a strong chance it never will.

And, wouldn’t you prefer looking up to date, and happy in what suits you now?

Time to l-e-t- it go!! Tug, tug… actually, I am here to hold your hand and gently help you to step out of your scarcity, what if, frame of mind.

Join me in my next class, From Closet Chaos to Wardrobe Bliss. It is on Tuesday May 23 @ 8pm, from the comfort of your own home!

5 Invaluable Questions For Anyone With Too Many Clothes

Are you one of those women with too many clothes and still nothing to wear?

Why do you think you continue to buy clothes when you have so many?

Is your closet so crammed that you just can’t see in your” forest” of clothes, what can go with what?

Here are some questions to write down on a card and post in your closet. Or… print this off and have it ready.

Then each time you reach in and take out something that makes you go “ummm?” Ask yourself these…

1.    Does it fit me? NOW?

2.    Have I worn it in the past year?

3.    If I saw it in a store, would I buy it again?

4.    Does it flatter me? In colour? For my body type?

5.    Is it functional for my lifestyle?

I am offering an online class called From Closet Chaos to Wardrobe Bliss and would love to have you join me!

Fire and Wood…How Do You Show up?

We show up wherever we are! Yes, that is true.

Your personality and how you do things shows up in your closet, in your purse, in your actions, your communications, your appearance and even in your personal features.

I am beginning to add my Fashion Feng Shui expertise into my work with clients… especially as I have been taking a face reading course with Michelle Butt. Check out her site here www.michellebutt.com.

The face reading goes hand in hand with my Fashion Feng Shui (FFS) and I get so excited so see the co-relation.

Let me demonstrate in my story of my last client. I went to help her clean out her closet and create new outfits from what she already had.

I knew from her curly hair and dimples that she had FIRE energy and the fact she is an ever- ready energizer bunny, I knew her second essence is Wood.

That showed up BIG TIME, when she time after time would toss a filmy, floaty top onto the give away pile and say,” That is so not me. Don’t know why I bought it.”

They were representative of WATER energy and is deep and flowing. She wouldn’t feel in control wearing these. So, they didn’t resonate with them.

Having my background in FFS, plus now, the face reading, I understand. I could put together outfits to represent her personality, her colouring and the textures
in her features.

In fact, she was shocked at some things I suggested and although a little resistant at first, she tried them, laughed and said,” I would NEVER have thought of this, but I like it.” Those words are music to my ears!!

Next… I asked where she wanted to take her business. Well, she wants to be seen more. AAAh… then we add more FIRE with colour. Plus, she wants to look organized, detailed (which she is but we need it to show in her appearance) and she wants to earn more money!! Then METAL is definitely going to be added to her wardrobe.

She will need some grounding as well and the EARTH element will help with that.

I want to acknowledge my dear friend and client, Tammy for this story.

If you are in business as an MLM leader, a coach or in wellness, then I highly encourage you to book a FREE consultation with me to know what you need added to your life to take you where you want to be.

Or… if you are interested in wanting more energy, fun or money in your life… book your free consultation too!!

Don’t Give Your Booties the Boot… 5 Tips on How to Wear Booties.

You’ve seen them in store windows and on women of all ages: booties or shoe boots as I call them.
They look cute on others but you aren’t sure if you can wear them.
You have doubts. I bet I can guess what you’re thinking. Am I too old to wear booties?
How do people wear booties with socks?
Should I get a slouchy one or a slim one?
What kind of pants do you wear booties?
Will they go out of style?

Lots of questions but lucky for you, I have lots of answers. Booties offer style solutions and they are not going out of style anytime soon!

  1. If you choose booties in a colour such as burgundy, teal or red, then connect the colour to your outfit in another piece of clothing or an accessory.
  2. Booties in light colours, such as sand or taupe can be worn with winter white or similar taupe colours.
  3. They also look great with darker denims or pants as a contrasting colour, especially if you are tall and can spare the height.
  4. Choose a bootie that relates to your hair colour, so it brings the eye of the observer up to your face and hair. This will tie almost any outfit together.
  5. Booties in metallic shades can add glitz or glamour or dressiness to any outfit.
  6. Ankle booties that are low cut in the vamp are great for slim over-the-knee pencil skirts. This bootie style elongates the leg.

Have some fun trying on various styles and wear an outfit you think you would like to pair them with.
Or… call me ! I am happy to go Bootie shopping with you!

What’s LOVE Got To Do With It? 3 Ways to Bring Love into Your Wardrobe

Wouldn’t it be fun to wake up every day and put on something you love? Wouldn’t it brighten your day and make you feel happy?

That experience is absolutely possible.

I’ve got a few ways you can use that powerful love force and infuse your wardrobe with it so you’re happy to meet the day.

  1. Shop for what you love

In order to have a wardrobe that’s filled with what you love you may need to change up your shopping habits. If you’re shopping on the run, you may be grabbing “just any old thing” rather than allowing yourself the time to try things on, look in the mirror and ask yourself the question, “Do I love this?” Or if you are taking the time to try things on, are you settling for the same old thing instead of exploring new possibilities? The best thing to do is give yourself some time to explore and have fun with clothes. Don’t settle for “okay” when you could enjoy clothing pieces and accessories that put a smile on your face every time you wear it.

  1. Display what you love

People have collections of things they love. It could be figurines of specific animals. Maybe it’s a wall of framed horticultural prints. Some people fall in love with a city and want to be reminded of it all the time. You can take those subjects you love and look for them in prints. How about a blouse with your favorite flower or a knit sweater with the image of your favorite animal woven in? Or a scarf depicting your favorite city? Many people gain much pleasure when they adorn themselves in things they already love.

  1. Satisfy your love of details

Look at your wardrobe or look through a fashion magazine. Are there details that you just love? Maybe you love vintage details. You may fancy lace, ruffles, bows, tucks, appliqués. Maybe you love urban details like studs, fringe, or grommets. Indulge your love of details and look for new ways to have them in your wardrobe. If it’s studs you like, look for them in handbags, shoes or boots, or on the hemlines of skirts.

LOL… can you guess what I LOVE to collect as a pattern in my clothes?

My goal is to have every woman LOVE who she sees in the mirror!

If you need some help to find the love in your closet, call me I would LOVE to help!

Who Do You Love Mama…Who Do You Love?

Welcome to February, the month of love. I am super excited because I totally love astrology and Mars, the fiery male planet, and Venus, the female planet of love, are merging together in Aries!!  Too much non-sense information?

Well not if I want to bring more love into your life… and I always do. I want you to fall in love with the person in the mirror.

Do you remember what  it feels like to be in love, in the beginning? The buoyant feeling you have. The excitement and the smiles. Wondering … what will I wear when we go out?  We actually spent time fussing over ourselves and putting outfits together. What happened?

Well you might say, menopause hit, I got divorced, my partner passed away, I became ill, I retired or I became a grandparent.  Whatever “The Life” happened to you, I am here to get you back on the self-love track.

Let’s start with what you have, your body.

In my last 2 videos, I talked about how negative women can be to themselves. Our self talk is a litany of “Don’t likes.”  We compare ourselves to other women and… often to younger women!

This month, in fact, today, I want you to highlight a feature about yourself that you LOVE.  Maybe it’s your décolleté. Are you wearing pieces that flatter your chest? Start wearing blouses with necklines that are flattering. Or add a statement necklace to your simple rounded neck top.

Perhaps you have long legs that you love. Wear pants in all kinds of fabrics like, velvet, jacquard and the new denim that is surfacing this spring.  Bring some loving attention to your body and highlight areas that make you feel like a ten!

It IS possible and I am here to help. Call me and we will work on this together.

BIG news for February:

To start you on your way to Spring fashion, I have 2 great FREE on-line events coming up.

  1. G.O.A.L.S  webinar. Discover some Fashion Fixes that you can implement right away and start attracting in goals you may have set this year. Goals like, lose weight, eat healthier, finding love, attracting in clients and saving money.
  2. Step Into Style 101… a 21 Day Style Challenge. Here is where you get a sneak peek into how I work one to one with clients. Jump into some of the questions and see what you discover. Try taking some baby steps into change. I will be right beside you because I am offering a private facebook group where I can answer questions and give more tips.

5 Fashion Tips to Take You into Spring

It’s that time of year: the weather’s unpredictable, allergies are acting up, and spring fashions are just coming in… but THIS WEATHER!! It jumps from warm to cold so quickly, how can one be prepared? Here’s a little study guide to help you take baby steps toward warm weather fashion.

Cardigans can move into springIMG_1308

Cashmere sweaters or cardigans can be a great choice heading into spring, even summer, especially when they are in lighter colors and/or are lightweight. Reach for them as great layering pieces for when days are flip flopping between warm and cold.

Boots keep on giving

Not only are boots great for the fall/winter fashion season, but they also march right into spring months. Boots, especially in lighter colors, make great companions to skirts and dresses. Ankle booties are sweet with rolled up jeans or when worn with a knit skirt and a chambray top.

Scarves and ponchos may be your go to accessoryIMG_1309

A great way to add spring colours to your wardrobe for a small investment is a colourful print scarf. Keep wearing wool ones if they don’t look too heavy or too dark. It might be time to shift to scarves in silk, cotton, or linen. I love to wear a poncho or wrap at this time of year. It adds a layer of warmth over my spring jacket and if it gets too warm by afternoon, all I need is the poncho.

Outsmart the weather with layers

When the weather can jump 20 degrees in spring days, you have to dress smart. Smart layering is the answer. Be sure your outfit looks cute with or without that outer layer because you could be taking it on and off a few times in a single day. Look for cardigans or crocheted sweaters, and of course a poncho or wrap. My other find this year are vests. Down-filled over a sweater, or a cosy fuzzy one will add a little extra warmth.

Black is forever green… what Karen?

Your black clothing items do not have to hibernate in the spring and summer months. They are great year round and can be part of your outfit…. When worn as a bottom piece. Help black shift into spring by adding a spot of colour in an accessory. Or do some colour blocking by wearing a black pant with a geranium red or turquoise top.
