YOU Could Have This Too!

Hello from North Bay. I zipped up for three days to help my sister and of course to swim and visit. Also, it was to escape the extra hot, humid weather of the south.

It takes me minutes to pack because I follow a formula that I am about to REVEAL to you too!

I brought 2 pair of capris and 3 tops with me. One is long sleeved for the evenings and cool mornings.

I wore a long summer dress as I drove here because I don’t like to wear constricting waist bands in the car for a longer drive. Besides it can serve as a bathing suit cover up and if I wanted something for going out for dinner, I am all set.

Fire and Wood…How Do You Show up?

We show up wherever we are! Yes, that is true.

Your personality and how you do things shows up in your closet, in your purse, in your actions, your communications, your appearance and even in your personal features.

I am beginning to add my Fashion Feng Shui expertise into my work with clients… especially as I have been taking a face reading course with Michelle Butt. Check out her site here www.michellebutt.com.

The face reading goes hand in hand with my Fashion Feng Shui (FFS) and I get so excited so see the co-relation.

Let me demonstrate in my story of my last client. I went to help her clean out her closet and create new outfits from what she already had.

I knew from her curly hair and dimples that she had FIRE energy and the fact she is an ever- ready energizer bunny, I knew her second essence is Wood.

That showed up BIG TIME, when she time after time would toss a filmy, floaty top onto the give away pile and say,” That is so not me. Don’t know why I bought it.”

They were representative of WATER energy and is deep and flowing. She wouldn’t feel in control wearing these. So, they didn’t resonate with them.

Having my background in FFS, plus now, the face reading, I understand. I could put together outfits to represent her personality, her colouring and the textures
in her features.

In fact, she was shocked at some things I suggested and although a little resistant at first, she tried them, laughed and said,” I would NEVER have thought of this, but I like it.” Those words are music to my ears!!

Next… I asked where she wanted to take her business. Well, she wants to be seen more. AAAh… then we add more FIRE with colour. Plus, she wants to look organized, detailed (which she is but we need it to show in her appearance) and she wants to earn more money!! Then METAL is definitely going to be added to her wardrobe.

She will need some grounding as well and the EARTH element will help with that.

I want to acknowledge my dear friend and client, Tammy for this story.

If you are in business as an MLM leader, a coach or in wellness, then I highly encourage you to book a FREE consultation with me to know what you need added to your life to take you where you want to be.

Don’t Give Your Booties the Boot… 5 Tips on How to Wear Booties.

You’ve seen them in store windows and on women of all ages: booties or shoe boots as I call them.
They look cute on others but you aren’t sure if you can wear them.
You have doubts. I bet I can guess what you’re thinking. Am I too old to wear booties?
How do people wear booties with socks?
Should I get a slouchy one or a slim one?
What kind of pants do you wear booties?
Will they go out of style?

Lots of questions but lucky for you, I have lots of answers. Booties offer style solutions and they are not going out of style anytime soon!

  1. If you choose booties in a colour such as burgundy, teal or red, then connect the colour to your outfit in another piece of clothing or an accessory.
  2. Booties in light colours, such as sand or taupe can be worn with winter white or similar taupe colours.
  3. They also look great with darker denims or pants as a contrasting colour, especially if you are tall and can spare the height.
  4. Choose a bootie that relates to your hair colour, so it brings the eye of the observer up to your face and hair. This will tie almost any outfit together.
  5. Booties in metallic shades can add glitz or glamour or dressiness to any outfit.
  6. Ankle booties that are low cut in the vamp are great for slim over-the-knee pencil skirts. This bootie style elongates the leg.

Have some fun trying on various styles and wear an outfit you think you would like to pair them with.
Or… call me ! I am happy to go Bootie shopping with you!

How to Express Your Passions Through Fashion This 2017!

At the beginning of each New Year we focus on our goals for business, health, home and spiritual.

Sometimes we lose sight of ourselves in all the great plans.

In Fashion Feng Shui, we set an intention that we would like to bring out in our appearance. Fashion is an easy way to do that.

There is a plethora of styles and prints to choose from. So, let’s get personal with some prints that match your hobbies, interests or passions. Wear images that inspire you!

Love to write? Read?

You may carry a journal with you. Or, you have downloaded books that you can’t wait to get into this winter.

Wear clothing that bear messages. Appreciate your favourite font in a unique piece of clothing.

World Cultures & Travel?

You aren’t satisfied on a seven block radius in your neighborhood. Your goals include figuring out how to make a living writing a travel blog. Bring out your travel enthusiasm by wearing African prints, Asian inspired kimonos and dresses influenced by the rich colours of India.

Pictures of flower gardens dance in your head?

Your library is filled with botanical picture books. You have visited Monet’s gardens and you are pouring over seed catalogues for the spring.

Choose to wear florals in small or large bloom scale. Cardigans, dresses and tops can show off your passion for all things floral.

Love animals?

Your goal includes a trip to Africa next year. Or maybe you are headed to the rain forest? Stay inspired by wearing leggings in a zebra print. Or try an animal print scarf with your coat. There is an abundance of prints out there to wear during the day or silky pyjamas by night.

5 Fashion Tips to Take You into Spring

It’s that time of year: the weather’s unpredictable, allergies are acting up, and spring fashions are just coming in… but THIS WEATHER!! It jumps from warm to cold so quickly, how can one be prepared? Here’s a little study guide to help you take baby steps toward warm weather fashion.

Cardigans can move into springIMG_1308

Cashmere sweaters or cardigans can be a great choice heading into spring, even summer, especially when they are in lighter colors and/or are lightweight. Reach for them as great layering pieces for when days are flip flopping between warm and cold.

Boots keep on giving

Not only are boots great for the fall/winter fashion season, but they also march right into spring months. Boots, especially in lighter colors, make great companions to skirts and dresses. Ankle booties are sweet with rolled up jeans or when worn with a knit skirt and a chambray top.

Scarves and ponchos may be your go to accessoryIMG_1309

A great way to add spring colours to your wardrobe for a small investment is a colourful print scarf. Keep wearing wool ones if they don’t look too heavy or too dark. It might be time to shift to scarves in silk, cotton, or linen. I love to wear a poncho or wrap at this time of year. It adds a layer of warmth over my spring jacket and if it gets too warm by afternoon, all I need is the poncho.

Outsmart the weather with layers

When the weather can jump 20 degrees in spring days, you have to dress smart. Smart layering is the answer. Be sure your outfit looks cute with or without that outer layer because you could be taking it on and off a few times in a single day. Look for cardigans or crocheted sweaters, and of course a poncho or wrap. My other find this year are vests. Down-filled over a sweater, or a cosy fuzzy one will add a little extra warmth.

Black is forever green… what Karen?

Your black clothing items do not have to hibernate in the spring and summer months. They are great year round and can be part of your outfit…. When worn as a bottom piece. Help black shift into spring by adding a spot of colour in an accessory. Or do some colour blocking by wearing a black pant with a geranium red or turquoise top.

3 Great Fashion Outfits with Colour for the Holiday Season

click for photo attribute

click for photo attribute

In my last two blogs, I wrote about alternatives to wearing black and 4 places we might find you donning colour. Here is one more place you may be this holiday season and 3 great fashion outfits that encompass colour for you to consider. I am not suggesting you need to dress in red and green this season, but you can start by adding colour in a piece here and there. Maybe step gingerly into colour with a neutral, perhaps navy, grey or a deep forest green to replace black.

Theatre or Ballet

The Nutcracker performances, holiday concerts, or theater events are plentiful in the month of December. Will you be attending? If you’re hitting the big city for a show, you may also be getting dinner or drinks beforehand. Make this occasion extra special by looking radiant in colour. If you’re attending matinee performances with your children, don’t be too casual. A few selected pieces will add to the spirit of the holidays whether it’s casual or dressy.

A burgundy velvet long-sleeved top layered with a faux fur stole in burgundy will look divine with a wide legged dark gray, flowy pant.

  • A snow leopard print stretchy knit dress with a cropped white faux fur jacket will fit right into this month’s events.
  • A multi-colored graphic print wool coat makes a grand entrance over a smoky blue pantsuit or jumpsuit.

I hope you ‘Deck the Halls’ with colour this season…Falalalala… Let these holidays leave you with great memories. I’m happy to help you pull together the outfits that will make every event stress-free! Just give me a call.

In my last blog post, we talked about alternatives to wearing black this holiday season. I proposed solutions for two different scenarios. In this blog post we will cover 2 more occasions where you can wear colourful fashion. Oh… it’s all true – those things we have heard about black: it is slimming (so is any dark colour), it goes with everything (so do pieces in your colour palette) and it is easy to travel with (have you tried building with a base of navy or brown). But did you know there are drawbacks to relying on black? It can make you look older and more tired than you are and… it ages you!! This holiday season, take a new look at colour. There are lots of choices that will harmonize with your skin and hair colouring, so you look radiant. Continue reading

3 Ways To Be Kind To Your Clothes And The Earth

eco laundering tipsIn my last blog, I shared 3 eco-friendly shopping tips. In this blog we’ll continue talking about ways to be kind to your clothes and to the earth.  Below are 3 tips I hope you will find useful.

I find as I mature, and my body changes, I need better quality clothes that suit my body, style and be age–appropriate. Better quality means spending more on core items. So … I want those classic, core items to last! As well, I want to continue to enjoy the changing seasons and the beauty that Mother Nature provides us. After all, most of us love fashion and the chance to dress for the seasons; especially here in Canada with the change of seasons. It is fun and a new discovery when I change up the clothes in my closet from summer to winter. I can look at items in a new way and see how I can fit what I have into a new style for that year.
