5 Invaluable Questions For Anyone With Too Many Clothes

Are you one of those women with too many clothes and still nothing to wear?

Why do you think you continue to buy clothes when you have so many?

Is your closet so crammed that you just can’t see in your” forest” of clothes, what can go with what?

Here are some questions to write down on a card and post in your closet. Or… print this off and have it ready.

Then each time you reach in and take out something that makes you go “ummm?” Ask yourself these…

1.    Does it fit me? NOW?

2.    Have I worn it in the past year?

3.    If I saw it in a store, would I buy it again?

4.    Does it flatter me? In colour? For my body type?

5.    Is it functional for my lifestyle?

3 Closet Cleaning Tips You May NOT Know!

Is your closet out of control?

Do you experience stress each time you open the doors?

Do you waste precious time and energy each morning trying to choose an outfit?

Do you feel overwhelmed at the thought of de-cluttering your closet and sorting through all the years of memories, poor purchases and body changes and sizes?

Here are 3 ways to help you navigate without getting over stressed and … to help you stay on track.

  1. Backwards: Everytime you wear something, hang it up with the hangar facing backwards. This way you will be able to see what you have worn. The trick is NOT to wear it again until you have gone through most of the clothes in your closet, that you wear often. Then, you can see what hasn’t been touched.
  2. Out of sight, out of mind: Try on clothes and those that don’t fit or are out of style, can  be put in a garbage bag and placed in the back of your closet or in a storage area. If you haven’t opened that bag in a year, then promise yourself to toss it. You probably won’t even miss what is in there!
  3. Limit your hangars: Have only a certain amount of hangars in your closet holding the clothes that fit you NOW!! When you buy something new, you have to get rid of something before you can hang the new item in your closet. This is wonderful if you have limited closet space.

When to Let Go

Everyone experiences opening their closet door and seeing items that they haven’t worn. Could it be that it’s time to let go of some things? Or do you think you should give those items a few more chances?

What would be the benefits of letting go? If you’re not constantly looking at items that make you stop and wonder whether they belong there anymore, your chances go way up for seeing the things you love and want to wear.

There may be things in your closet that could be of service to others if you were to donate them to a charity. You may even have pieces that don’t seem right for you that could earn some money if you were to take them to a consignment store.

So why is it so hard to make some edits to your wardrobe? We have memories and stories attached to clothes. We have guilt about buying and not wearing what we purchased. It’s hard to face that waste of money. Or we look at clothes that were bought hastily or purchased while emotions were running high. It reminds us of habits we’d rather not face.

The good news is that you’re not alone. Chances are most people have things hanging in their closets that should be in someone else’s closet, not theirs. These shopping misses or the holding on of clothes that don’t serve you in your current lifestyle are signs that you’re human.

This is an area where I can’t stress enough how helpful it is to have a professional wardrobe consultant there to help you with this process. Someone objective can help you assess whether you should hold on to something or let it go. That professional consultant has worked in hundreds of closets and has no judgment about yours. She knows that once you’re clear about what should stay and what should go, you’ll have freed up so much mental and physical space. You’ll feel light and buoyant—like you’ve lost weight or been on a vacation—once you have an exit plan for clothing that’s no longer serving you.

I’d like to give you some practice homework to try in your own closet. Click here to get your 21 Reasons to Let Go! Once you understand some of the reasons clothes need to go, you may end up making lots of progress on your own. Then you can call on someone to help you in the final round on the pieces that you’re still wondering about. How does that sound?

Plan on spending some time in your closet—whatever you think you can handle at one time. It can be thirty minutes, an hour or two, or maybe an afternoon on the weekend.

Remember… we usually only wear 20% of all the clothes in our closet… 80% of the time. Let’s make it a GREAT 20%!!

Are You Sabotaging Yourself?

Join me Tuesday Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. or Wednesday Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. for my webinar called G.O.A.L.S.

Have you ever found yourself excited to set your goals and then 3 to 5 days into it, you make excuses and stop?  Then, it’s a never ending conversation of negativity in your head, beating yourself up because you didn’t continue.

Do you know that changing your appearance or at least tweaking some things can assist you in sticking to your goals?

Let’s take daily exercise for an example. If you put your exercise clothes out the night before, so you can easily jump into them in the morning, your brain knows these clothes can allow movement and your body feels more energetic in them.
When you do this daily, it sets a routine in your mind and body as well as with yourself.

Would you like to save money this year to go on vacation?  Once you learn how to shop your closet and buy according to your colour and personality style, you will think twice and save more!

Who Do You Love Mama…Who Do You Love?

Welcome to February, the month of love. I am super excited because I totally love astrology and Mars, the fiery male planet, and Venus, the female planet of love, are merging together in Aries!!  Too much non-sense information?

Well not if I want to bring more love into your life… and I always do. I want you to fall in love with the person in the mirror.

Do you remember what  it feels like to be in love, in the beginning? The buoyant feeling you have. The excitement and the smiles. Wondering … what will I wear when we go out?  We actually spent time fussing over ourselves and putting outfits together. What happened?

Well you might say, menopause hit, I got divorced, my partner passed away, I became ill, I retired or I became a grandparent.  Whatever “The Life” happened to you, I am here to get you back on the self-love track.

Let’s start with what you have, your body.

In my last 2 videos, I talked about how negative women can be to themselves. Our self talk is a litany of “Don’t likes.”  We compare ourselves to other women and… often to younger women!

This month, in fact, today, I want you to highlight a feature about yourself that you LOVE.  Maybe it’s your décolleté. Are you wearing pieces that flatter your chest? Start wearing blouses with necklines that are flattering. Or add a statement necklace to your simple rounded neck top.

Perhaps you have long legs that you love. Wear pants in all kinds of fabrics like, velvet, jacquard and the new denim that is surfacing this spring.  Bring some loving attention to your body and highlight areas that make you feel like a ten!

It IS possible and I am here to help. Call me and we will work on this together.

BIG news for February:

To start you on your way to Spring fashion, I have 2 great FREE on-line events coming up.

  1. G.O.A.L.S  webinar. Discover some Fashion Fixes that you can implement right away and start attracting in goals you may have set this year. Goals like, lose weight, eat healthier, finding love, attracting in clients and saving money.
  2. Step Into Style 101… a 21 Day Style Challenge. Here is where you get a sneak peek into how I work one to one with clients. Jump into some of the questions and see what you discover. Try taking some baby steps into change. I will be right beside you because I am offering a private facebook group where I can answer questions and give more tips.

Both of these are FREE!! So register today!
Here is the link for the G.O.A.L.S. webinar, Step Into Style 101 will follow, so watch for it.

Thank you for sharing and liking my videos and remember I am also on Facebook LIVE on Sundays at 7 pm, EST. My show is called STYLIN SUNDAYS.

14 Signs Your Wardrobe is in Great Shape

Spring wardrobeSpring is finally peeking through the rays of the sun and what does this mean? It means time to review what is in your closet and prepare for your summer wardrobe! Here are 14 signs that ensure your closet and wardrobe is in the best shape it can be.

1. Only clothing you can wear in the current season is in your closet. Clothes for the opposite season are stored away.

2. Nearly everything is visible when you open your closet doors. Clothes and accessories aren’t hidden away.

3. Shoes are on shoe racks and every single pair is in good condition.

4. Your dry-cleaning, alterations, shoe and handbag repairs aren’t buried in your closet somewhere. You’ve already dropped them off and they’re ready to be picked up this week.

5. You have outfit combinations that you’re 100% sure about.

6. Your accessories are easy to grab whether they’re in your closet or on a dressing table.

7. Handbags are organized on a shelf or hung on a rack. Stuffing is placed inside of them to help keep their original shape. You’ve recently reconditioned them with leather lotion.

8. All the hangers are the same color and design. No clothing items are being damaged by the use of wire hangers.

9. Clothing is organized in a way that makes sense to you—either by color, type of item or lifestyle category.

10. You have an outfit you could put on in five minutes for any occasion including dressy or casual parties, sporting events, girl’s night out, romantic dinners, interviews, festivals or funerals.

11. All the clothes in your closet are in colors that flatter you and complement your coloring.

12. Everything in your closet fits you now or within a five-pound fluctuation. Anything smaller or larger is stored away or given away.

13. Everything in your closet makes you happy. You’re not hanging on to clothes that don’t suit you or conjure up bad memories or make you feel bad about yourself.

14. You have your image consultant’s phone number on speed dial, and you don’t hesitate to call her when you need help!

Join me the last Wednesday of every month at 7 pm for my teleclass “Three Women With a View.’” The call in number is 1-661-673-8605 access code is: 814245#

This month’s call is “Swing Into Spring.”
