From PREDICTABLE to PDA!

I just had a wonderful conversation with a woman, explaining what it is I do, since she was over to interview me before signing me up to speak at their store. Our conversation gave me the idea for this story.

I was so happy to know she loves wearing colour and therefore really stands out in her family.

She is sad that her sister lives in black and yoga pants. And… she said that now her Mother has retired, she has given up!

“She is PREDICTABLE and BORING. All she does is throw on a pair of pants and a t-shirt! She has lost a reason to dress with some interest since she says she is ONLY at home.”

”What message is her Mother sending to herself, her husband, her family and her friends?” I ask.

“I have given up.” is her look!

Is that you? Are you predictable, plain and boring to yourself and your family?

When to Let Go

Everyone experiences opening their closet door and seeing items that they haven’t worn. Could it be that it’s time to let go of some things? Or do you think you should give those items a few more chances?

What would be the benefits of letting go? If you’re not constantly looking at items that make you stop and wonder whether they belong there anymore, your chances go way up for seeing the things you love and want to wear.

There may be things in your closet that could be of service to others if you were to donate them to a charity. You may even have pieces that don’t seem right for you that could earn some money if you were to take them to a consignment store.

So why is it so hard to make some edits to your wardrobe? We have memories and stories attached to clothes. We have guilt about buying and not wearing what we purchased. It’s hard to face that waste of money. Or we look at clothes that were bought hastily or purchased while emotions were running high. It reminds us of habits we’d rather not face.

The good news is that you’re not alone. Chances are most people have things hanging in their closets that should be in someone else’s closet, not theirs. These shopping misses or the holding on of clothes that don’t serve you in your current lifestyle are signs that you’re human.

This is an area where I can’t stress enough how helpful it is to have a professional wardrobe consultant there to help you with this process. Someone objective can help you assess whether you should hold on to something or let it go. That professional consultant has worked in hundreds of closets and has no judgment about yours. She knows that once you’re clear about what should stay and what should go, you’ll have freed up so much mental and physical space. You’ll feel light and buoyant—like you’ve lost weight or been on a vacation—once you have an exit plan for clothing that’s no longer serving you.

I’d like to give you some practice homework to try in your own closet. Click here to get your 21 Reasons to Let Go! Once you understand some of the reasons clothes need to go, you may end up making lots of progress on your own. Then you can call on someone to help you in the final round on the pieces that you’re still wondering about. How does that sound?

Plan on spending some time in your closet—whatever you think you can handle at one time. It can be thirty minutes, an hour or two, or maybe an afternoon on the weekend.

Remember… we usually only wear 20% of all the clothes in our closet… 80% of the time. Let’s make it a GREAT 20%!!

Fire and Wood…How Do You Show up?

We show up wherever we are! Yes, that is true.

Your personality and how you do things shows up in your closet, in your purse, in your actions, your communications, your appearance and even in your personal features.

I am beginning to add my Fashion Feng Shui expertise into my work with clients… especially as I have been taking a face reading course with Michelle Butt. Check out her site here www.michellebutt.com.

The face reading goes hand in hand with my Fashion Feng Shui (FFS) and I get so excited so see the co-relation.

Let me demonstrate in my story of my last client. I went to help her clean out her closet and create new outfits from what she already had.

I knew from her curly hair and dimples that she had FIRE energy and the fact she is an ever- ready energizer bunny, I knew her second essence is Wood.

That showed up BIG TIME, when she time after time would toss a filmy, floaty top onto the give away pile and say,” That is so not me. Don’t know why I bought it.”

They were representative of WATER energy and is deep and flowing. She wouldn’t feel in control wearing these. So, they didn’t resonate with them.

Having my background in FFS, plus now, the face reading, I understand. I could put together outfits to represent her personality, her colouring and the textures
in her features.

In fact, she was shocked at some things I suggested and although a little resistant at first, she tried them, laughed and said,” I would NEVER have thought of this, but I like it.” Those words are music to my ears!!

Next… I asked where she wanted to take her business. Well, she wants to be seen more. AAAh… then we add more FIRE with colour. Plus, she wants to look organized, detailed (which she is but we need it to show in her appearance) and she wants to earn more money!! Then METAL is definitely going to be added to her wardrobe.

She will need some grounding as well and the EARTH element will help with that.

I want to acknowledge my dear friend and client, Tammy for this story.

If you are in business as an MLM leader, a coach or in wellness, then I highly encourage you to book a FREE consultation with me to know what you need added to your life to take you where you want to be.

panic shoppingEveryone has engaged in panic shopping at one time or another. Be truthful: Is it getting out of control? Are you spending money but not seeing a return on your investment. Clothes are expensive. One way to cut that expense is to do less panic shopping. Here’s how to control 4 panic situations that keep women caught in a money trap.

Panic Shopping Situation 1: Distraction from Reality

Have you ever said to yourself, “Oh my gosh, I’ve got to go shopping. My (husband, kids, job) is driving me crazy!” Using shopping to temporarily distract you from a tough emotional situation might work for a couple of hours but then afterwards you have less money, more stuff you don’t know what to do with, and the problems you ran away from still exist.
