How to Make Summer Event Wardrobe Worries Disappear

Summer is fast approaching and with it comes weddings, BBQ parties, pool parties etc.

As a fashion and wardrobe coach, I hear from my clients about the things that stress them out and getting dressed for summer events is one of them.

I want you to feel at ease with yourself and stress-free. Let’s see if I can help you do that!

“I’m worried about looking appropriate for an upcoming event.”

Events can be a bit tricky, as you’re not only dressing for the event; you’re dressing for the venue, the people, and the weather. The first thing to do when starting to plan your look for an event is to study the invitation. Does it have a dress code on it alerting you to the type of outfit you should be wearing? Is the invitation design formal or informal? Every invitation holds clues for you.

The next thing you can do is research the location of the event. Google is your friend here. Look up what the weather will be like during the days you’ll be there or how the weather normally behaves during that time of year. What will also help is to look at the venue’s website for photos of previous events held at this location. Even though you may be attending an event in a barn, you may see by the photos that elegant parties are the norm.

By researching these different factors, you can more confidently figure out an outfit that you’d feel comfortable in and one that would be appropriate for the setting as well.

Of course, if you have been following me, you know I will recommend that you wear outfits that compliment your skin undertone and your body shape. Those alone will help boost your confidence.

3 More Style Recipes to Let Your Personality Shine

Yes, it is dress-up and party time! And… time to let your STYLE personality come out!.

Enter… YOU! Your personality deserves to shine and what a better way than wearing an outfit that matches who you are.

In my last blog, I gave 3 style recipes, a dramatic, a feminine and a funky. Here are 3 more to choose from.

  • Go for a Classic vibe. Black and white items like to play together. It could be a black pleated skirt and a white satin blouse, or a column of black under a white wool coat.  If you are a warm palette, you may want to try a buttery cream column of colour under a brown or navy jacket.

  • Are you a Minimalist? You could wear a black turtleneck, cigarette pants, and pointy toed kitten heels. In my case, I would choose a column of grey and grey snakeskin look shoes. If you are a warm palette, try all brown or deep eggplant. In this case less is more.

  • How about Glamorous for the New Year? Think movie star glamour and pull out you faux fur cape or jacket to wear over your red hot dress. Add a shade of red that blends with but doesn’t match your red dress.  Wear nude coloured pumps to keep the attention closer to your face. You will be turning heads!

Wishing you Prosperity, Good Health and Joy in 2017! Now… go get your GLAM on!

3 Great Fashion Outfits with Colour for the Holiday Season

In my last two blogs, I wrote about alternatives to wearing black and 4 places we might find you donning colour. Here is one more place you may be this holiday season and 3 great fashion outfits that encompass colour for you to consider. I am not suggesting you need to dress in red and green this season, but you can start by adding colour in a piece here and there. Maybe step gingerly into colour with a neutral, perhaps navy, grey or a deep forest green to replace black.

Theatre or Ballet

The Nutcracker performances, holiday concerts, or theater events are plentiful in the month of December. Will you be attending? If you’re hitting the big city for a show, you may also be getting dinner or drinks beforehand. Make this occasion extra special by looking radiant in colour. If you’re attending matinee performances with your children, don’t be too casual. A few selected pieces will add to the spirit of the holidays whether it’s casual or dressy.

A burgundy velvet long-sleeved top layered with a faux fur stole in burgundy will look divine with a wide legged dark gray, flowy pant.

  • A snow leopard print stretchy knit dress with a cropped white faux fur jacket will fit right into this month’s events.
  • A multi-colored graphic print wool coat makes a grand entrance over a smoky blue pantsuit or jumpsuit.

I hope you ‘Deck the Halls’ with colour this season…Falalalala… Let these holidays leave you with great memories. I’m happy to help you pull together the outfits that will make every event stress-free! Just give me a call.

3 Ways To Be Kind To Your Clothes And The Earth

eco laundering tipsIn my last blog, I shared 3 eco-friendly shopping tips. In this blog we’ll continue talking about ways to be kind to your clothes and to the earth.  Below are 3 tips I hope you will find useful.

I find as I mature, and my body changes, I need better quality clothes that suit my body, style and be age–appropriate. Better quality means spending more on core items. So … I want those classic, core items to last! As well, I want to continue to enjoy the changing seasons and the beauty that Mother Nature provides us. After all, most of us love fashion and the chance to dress for the seasons; especially here in Canada with the change of seasons. It is fun and a new discovery when I change up the clothes in my closet from summer to winter. I can look at items in a new way and see how I can fit what I have into a new style for that year. 3 Eco-Care Shopping Tips

eco friendly clothing

You care about fashion, and you care about the environment. You love all seasons: Nature’s season and the fashion seasons. But what if there was a conflict between the two? Awareness is growing about the relationship between these two. Some people feel “fast fashion” is contributing to landfills. More and more we’re seeing clothing made from “new” resources like bamboo, hemp, and soy. So, what should you look for when you’re shopping? Should you even be shopping? What if your fashion habits were harming the earth? No one wants to contribute to landfills, poison the air, or threaten natural resources. If these issues have been on your mind, here are the first 3 tips to help you feel like you’re protecting the environment while enjoying your fashion and style. Continue reading
