From PREDICTABLE to PDA!

I just had a wonderful conversation with a woman, explaining what it is I do, since she was over to interview me before signing me up to speak at their store. Our conversation gave me the idea for this story.

I was so happy to know she loves wearing colour and therefore really stands out in her family.

She is sad that her sister lives in black and yoga pants. And… she said that now her Mother has retired, she has given up!

“She is PREDICTABLE and BORING. All she does is throw on a pair of pants and a t-shirt! She has lost a reason to dress with some interest since she says she is ONLY at home.”

”What message is her Mother sending to herself, her husband, her family and her friends?” I ask.

“I have given up.” is her look!

Is that you? Are you predictable, plain and boring to yourself and your family?

I am here to hold your hand and take you out of that rut! Have some FUN in your life and in your closet!

How to Make Summer Event Wardrobe Worries Disappear

Summer is fast approaching and with it comes weddings, BBQ parties, pool parties etc.

As a fashion and wardrobe coach, I hear from my clients about the things that stress them out and getting dressed for summer events is one of them.

I want you to feel at ease with yourself and stress-free. Let’s see if I can help you do that!

“I’m worried about looking appropriate for an upcoming event.”

Events can be a bit tricky, as you’re not only dressing for the event; you’re dressing for the venue, the people, and the weather. The first thing to do when starting to plan your look for an event is to study the invitation. Does it have a dress code on it alerting you to the type of outfit you should be wearing? Is the invitation design formal or informal? Every invitation holds clues for you.

The next thing you can do is research the location of the event. Google is your friend here. Look up what the weather will be like during the days you’ll be there or how the weather normally behaves during that time of year. What will also help is to look at the venue’s website for photos of previous events held at this location. Even though you may be attending an event in a barn, you may see by the photos that elegant parties are the norm.

By researching these different factors, you can more confidently figure out an outfit that you’d feel comfortable in and one that would be appropriate for the setting as well.

Of course, if you have been following me, you know I will recommend that you wear outfits that compliment your skin undertone and your body shape. Those alone will help boost your confidence.

Don’t Give Your Booties the Boot… 5 Tips on How to Wear Booties.

You’ve seen them in store windows and on women of all ages: booties or shoe boots as I call them.
They look cute on others but you aren’t sure if you can wear them.
You have doubts. I bet I can guess what you’re thinking. Am I too old to wear booties?
How do people wear booties with socks?
Should I get a slouchy one or a slim one?
What kind of pants do you wear booties?
Will they go out of style?

Lots of questions but lucky for you, I have lots of answers. Booties offer style solutions and they are not going out of style anytime soon!

  1. If you choose booties in a colour such as burgundy, teal or red, then connect the colour to your outfit in another piece of clothing or an accessory.
  2. Booties in light colours, such as sand or taupe can be worn with winter white or similar taupe colours.
  3. They also look great with darker denims or pants as a contrasting colour, especially if you are tall and can spare the height.
  4. Choose a bootie that relates to your hair colour, so it brings the eye of the observer up to your face and hair. This will tie almost any outfit together.
  5. Booties in metallic shades can add glitz or glamour or dressiness to any outfit.
  6. Ankle booties that are low cut in the vamp are great for slim over-the-knee pencil skirts. This bootie style elongates the leg.

Have some fun trying on various styles and wear an outfit you think you would like to pair them with.
Or… call me ! I am happy to go Bootie shopping with you!

Are You Sabotaging Yourself?

Join me Tuesday Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. or Wednesday Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. for my webinar called G.O.A.L.S.

Have you ever found yourself excited to set your goals and then 3 to 5 days into it, you make excuses and stop?  Then, it’s a never ending conversation of negativity in your head, beating yourself up because you didn’t continue.

Do you know that changing your appearance or at least tweaking some things can assist you in sticking to your goals?

Let’s take daily exercise for an example. If you put your exercise clothes out the night before, so you can easily jump into them in the morning, your brain knows these clothes can allow movement and your body feels more energetic in them.
When you do this daily, it sets a routine in your mind and body as well as with yourself.

What is Your Festive STYLE Personality?

Well the season is upon us and whether it’s for a holiday party, a special occasion, or a last minute “Want to meet for drinks?” invitation, you don’t want to waste time fussing over your outfit.

You WANT to be able to open your closet and create a memorable outfit that matches your style personality!  Then all you need to do is take care of the hair and make-up. Well what is that you ask? Let me help!

Here are 3 fancy, festive style recipes I have whipped up for you.

  • Try on a Dramatic look. From your closet choose the brightest, boldest tunic top you have. Pair it with a leather jegging or a dark denim ankle jean. Throw on some sexy shoes and call it party time… Forget something? Yes, a true dramatic would be wearing bold accessories as well.

  • How about a soft Feminine vibe?  Opposite from the dramatic…Wear separates in soft, blush tones. Try mixing up your fabrics to combine shiny surfaces and matte. Add your vintage diamonds (circonias) and you will be irresistible.

  • Try a Funky outfit. Dress up your dark, slim jeans with patterned or colourful pumps. Add a silky blouse, open at the neck where your blingy, statement necklace will be dancing with the light.  You will be dancing too with the excitement of knowing you look so great!

I am full of creative ideas for STYLE recipes! I love mixing and matching outfits to my clients’ personalities and occasions. Give me a call 905-775-7486 or email Karen@imageconnections.ca
